Who We Are

The Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) is a coalition of organizations involved in international development. MCIC works with Manitobans who are concerned about building a better world. We believe that successful international development work goes hand-in-hand with efforts to build understanding of international issues within Manitoba. We encourage dialogue on global issues and help empower Manitobans to become active global citizens, individuals who understand that their actions here make a difference around the world.

Youth have a lot of ideas to share about making a better world. MCIC seeks to include young people in the discussion of major global issues like poverty and the environment. MCIC programs tap into the passion and ideas that they have to offer.

Generating Momentum for Our World

Each year, MCIC’s Generating Momentum for Our World conferences engage hundreds of students from communities across Manitoba on the challenges facing our world. Through hands-on workshops, students focus on creative ways (including video, music, theatre and visual art) to express what they have learned and encourage others to take action. Programs and Workshops

MCIC offers a range of workshops, games and programs for your school, all to educate young people about global issues and encourage them to act as global citizens. We have an interactive game for Middles Years students, we offer workshops on many topics for your classroom, and promote Fair Trade through an Ethical Fashion Show, procurement of Fair Trade Sports Balls and more. Issues

MCIC and our member agencies educate on a whole host of global issues, ranging from Gender and Education to Water and Food Security. Click here to learn more about these issues and see what resources MCIC and our member agencies have to offer for use in your classroom.

Global Citizenship in Your School

Students and teachers throughout Manitoba are taking action as global citizens, by engaging their schools and communities in international and local development issues. MCIC seeks to encourage and recognize these global citizens. We present the Global Citizenship Award to graduating high school students, and profile young Manitobans who are making a difference in our world during International Development Week. MCIC also recognizes educators who are Global Citizens. In addition, MCIC can assist schools in changing their procurement and policy measures to ensure sustainable development.
